Has “Trouble at the Border” Robbed You of Your Dream?
Have you ever had an idea you were passionate about but never took beyond the idea stage?
Was there something you really wanted to do but never did? Perhaps you discovered a business
you’d love to start or realized what kind of work you’d really like to be doing. Maybe
you were thinking you’d finally do something to find your passion and purpose in life.
Possibly you wanted to take an adventurous trip to an exotic destination.
Whatever it was, you were clear about what you wanted and then, for some reason, you
went no further.
What was it that got in your way? “Trouble at the border” may well have been the culprit
that robbed you of your dream.
Your Exciting Idea Meets a Hard Reality
When you’re passionate about an idea you dream about it and visualize it coming true. You
get enthused and excited. Your energy builds as you play with your idea. All of this is
light, fun, and flows easily. You’re in the realm of ideas.
But then to make your idea a reality, you will have to take it into the physical realm;
otherwise your idea remains just that – an idea. Synchronicities, miracles, magic, flow,
assistance from the Universe, luck, or whatever else you want to call it may occur. And
you will still need to take action.
That’s when “trouble at the border” shows up. You’re at the border between the realm of
ideas and the realm of the physical and it takes energy to move across that border. The
fun and inspiration of your idea runs smack into this truth: you have to work to bring
your idea to life!
This sudden shift from the light energy of ideas to the dense energy requirements of
creating those ideas in the physical world can be daunting, even paralyzing. It’s as
though you were enjoying a warm sunny day and suddenly you’re doused with ice water.
Your dream was so much fun to think about and now you’re faced with tasks, schedules,
resources, details, people, and things. What you were about to do suddenly looks much
harder than you’d expected. It may take more money, time, effort, courage, and
persistence than you’d thought.
Monkey Mind Chimes In
To top it off, your Monkey Mind kicks into high gear at the border, too. Your Monkey Mind is
that critical internal voice full of judgment, criticism, blame, worry, and doubt. Monkey Mind
doesn’t like change so when you’re at the border between the idea realm and the physical realm,
it picks up its volume to keep you from making the change you want. The voice may say things
such as “If it's this hard, it must not be the right path for me,” or “Now just isn’t the
right time,” or “If I’m meant to do this it will happen on its own.”
Should You Give Up?
Between your Monkey Mind and the energy needed to bring your idea to reality, it’s easy to
lose your enthusiasm and excitement, to feel disheartened and discouraged. You may even
decide to abandon your passionate idea and just give up at this point.
Is it hopeless? Will it always be impossibly difficult to make your dreams and desires
come true? Should you just give up?
No, of course not! There are three elements that can help you make your way across the
border between the realm of ideas and the realm of physical reality.
In Your Life
The next time you are passionate about an idea, use these three elements to help
you bring your idea to life with more ease and fun.
Have a clear, compelling, energizing vision that you’re passionate about. Capture
that vision in a form that you can see (a drawing, a collage) and focus on it regularly.
Know that “trouble at the border” is normal and inevitable. It doesn’t mean there’s
something wrong with you or your idea. It doesn’t mean you should give up. It just means
you’re at the border between an idea and bringing that idea to life. In fact, big trouble
at the border may be a sign that you’re up to something big. And that’s good news!
Whatever you do to keep your Monkey Mind from running your life, this is an
especially good time to do more of that!
When you are aware of and prepared for “trouble at the border” you’ll be able to
turn your dazzling dreams to splendid realities.
Enjoy!
